Laboratories were important facilities in producing technology innovation, and the types and capabilities of each laboratory within ICARD varied and so did the personnel abilities. In order to optimize laboratories through collaboration with other institutions, information was necessary on the performance of the ICARD laboratories.

In carrying out its duties and functions, each TIU within ICARD was supported by the availability of facilities such as experimental farms (KP), animal housings, and laboratories. There were 12 experimental farms with a total area of 186.46 ha distributed in the 4 TIUs : 1) IRCVS (1 EF) with area of 21.06 ha; 2) IRIAP (6 EF) with area of 92.97 ha; 3) IBCRS (3 EF) with area of 23.55 ha, and 4) IGRS (EF KP) with area of 48.88 ha.

ICARD had 57 animal housings and 20 laboratories distributed in the TIUs. The laboratories were for nutrition, reproduction, radio-immunoassay, analytical service, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, pathology, and toxicology, and also laboratory with biosafety level-3, and zoonosis.

The management of laboratories with good standard should follow SNI 17025:2005 (Indonesian National Standard) which adopted ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for applying quality management system. The laboratories managed by IRCVS (6 types) and IRIAP (2 types) had obtained ISO 17025:2005 certificate. Therefore, laboratories with such management following the standard should be very competitive.

IRCVS also received an accreditation certificate SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2008 (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) No. LP-121-IDN as a competent testing laboratory since 2002. In 2015 it had been reaccredited and received an accreditation certification valid from January 21, 2015, until January 20, 2019.

IRCVS also received a certificate SNI ISO/IEC 17043:2010 No. PUP-005-IDN valid from July 29, 2015, until July 28, 2019 as Proficiency Test Laboratory (LPUP). On August 5, 2015, the nutrition and feed laboratory of IBCRS was accredited for analyzing dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, and ash content.

The experimental farms of ICARD varied in terms of total area, land use, duties and functions, agro-ecosystem, distance, capacity, and problems. This variation also resulted in varying performances among them. However, despite the large variation their functions were still focused on supporting research activities optimally.
